Partial translation of the name "Proliv Uzenkoy ili Yelovoy," meaning "narrow or spruce strait" given by Sub.-Lt. M. Murashev, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), in 1839 or 1840 and published in 1849 on Russian Hydrographic Dept. Chart 1425.
