Description
Cheval Island is located off E coast of Aialik Peninsula, 24 mi. S of Seward, Chugach Mts. 1.5 miles long.
History
Named on June 6, 1906, by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) to replace the common name "Horse Island" given by that agency the year before. "Cheval" is the French word for Horse".
