On Douglas Island, 3 mi SW of Juneau and W of the head of Cowee Creek, Coast Mts.

History

Named by theU.S. Forest Service (USFS)in 1950 for John W. Troy (1868-1942), former Governor of Alaska and newspaperman. In 1897, he went to Alaska to cover the gold rush. He became editor and publisher of the Skagaway Daily Alaskan in 1899, and in 1913, he went to Juneau as Editor of the Daily Alaksa Empire. In 1919, he became Collector of Customs for Alaska and then served as Governor from 1933-39.
