Description
Douglas Island is located extends NW-SE between Gastineau Channel and Stephens Passage, 0.5 mi. S of Juneau, Coast Mts. 17 miles long.
History
Named by Captain Vancouver (1798, v. 3, p. 277), Royal Navy (RN), for John Douglas, who in 1791 became Bishop of Salisbury. He was the editor of Captain James Cook's journal (wagner, 1937, p. 384).
