El Nido Peak is located between Stag Bay and Lisianski Inlet, on W coast of Chichagof I., 4 mi. W of Pelican, Alex. Arch.
History
Local name reported in 1951; by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) of Spanish derivation meaning "the nest." It probably was named after the El Nido gold mine, 2.5 miles to the east, which was opened in 1921. No mining has been done here since 1939 (Roseman, 1959, p. 200).
