Description

Berg Lake is located at mouth of Berg Creek in Glacier Bay National Monument, 64 mi. NW of Juneau, St. Elias Mts. 3 miles long.

History

So named in 1890 by Reid (1892, pl. 14) because fo the large number of icebergs floating on the lake. Reid's map shows the lake at the edge of Muir Glacier. Since 1890 the glacier has retreated 6 mi., a condition which has resulted in the lake's disappearance.
