Description

On the N. coast of Chicagof Island, near the mouth of Port Frederick, 1.2 mi NW of Hoonah, Alexandria Archipeligo.

History

Named Hooniah Point by E. F. dickins, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), in 1901 for the village of Hooniah, now spelled Hoonah. The name was published by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in the 1901 Coast Pilot (p.208). Originally named Entrance Point by Lieutenant F. M. Symonds, U.S. Navy (USN), in 1880 and published by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in the 1883 Coast Pilot (p.191). Originally named Entrance Point.
