History
Aleut name reported by Putnam (1903, p. 1015), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), as "Samla'logh-chuka" meaning "hollow where eggs are gathered * * * remarkable depression * * * natives let themselves down with ropes over the edge of this bluff to gather birds' eggs."
