History

Named "Westdahl Reef" by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1925 for Ferdinand Westdahl, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), commander of the Coast Survey steamer McArthur, who made surveys in the area in 1901. This feature was discovered by W. E. Parker, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), commander of the steamer Patterson, during a survey of the area in 1911.
