A proposal to change the name Silver Lake to Lake Valhalla was submitted in October 2003; the proposal was rejected by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (USBGN) on 9 June 2005, based on the findings and recommendations of the Town of Enterprise, the Oneida County Board of Commissioners, and the Wisconsin Geographic Names Council, all of which cited a reluctance to change a name in long-standing use.
