History

Named by Captain George Vancouver to honor the British ambassador to the Court of Madrid, Alleyne Fitzherbert, whose title was Baron St. Helens. In 2013 Mount Saint Helens was listed in the National Register of Historic Places for its significance as a Traditional Cultural Property of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe and the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation.
