Description
Between 200 and 600 ft deep and 5 mi long, heads at the junction of Aztec Creek and Cliff Canyon, trends N to Glen Canyon of the Colorado River 31 mi ENE of Glen Canyon Dam in AZ.
History
Called Aztec Canyon by early miners in the mistaken belief that the Aztecs had built three pillar-like shelters at the mouth of the canyon (UT-T34/#46). Name is derived from a Navajo word which can mean either "forbidden" or "forbidding".
