Description
The reservoir is a 19,305 acre impoundment operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers and located within Cooper Lake State Park. The reservoir is located in northeast Texas at mile 23.3 on the South Sulphur River, about 4 miles southeast of Cooper, and 13 miles north of the community of Sulphur Springs.
History
The reservoir was formerly known as Cooper Lake, but was renamed by an act of Congress in 1996; however, the feature is still widely known as Cooper Lake. Public Law 104-206, effective 30 September 1996.
