Description
Located partly in Angelina National Forest, formed by damming the Angelina River at the north edge of McGee Bend, about 17.7 km (11 mi) northwest of Jasper.
History
Named in honor of Sam Rayburn (1882-1961), member of Congress from Texas and Speaker of the House of Representatives, by Congressional action, Public Law No. 88-123, September 11, 1963.
