Description

Located in eastern South Dakota along the boundary with Minnesota, 48 km (30 mi) north-northeast of Sioux Falls; County Seat: Flandreau.

History

Created and organized in 1873; named for Civil War Colonel Gideon C Moody (1832-1906), who served as Speaker of the House of the Territorial Legislature from 1874-75 and later as one of two first U S Senators from the new State of South Dakota from 1889-1891. (SD-T17/p31)
