Description
Located in northern South Dakota along the border with North Dakota, 37 km (23 mi) northwest of Aberdeen; County Seat: Leola.
History
Created in 1873, organized in 1885, and named for Ohio native Brigadier General James B McPherson (1828-1864), a prominent Union officer during the Civil War who was killed in action in 1864. (SD-T17/p29)
