Description

Located in northeastern South Dakota along the boundary with North Dakota; 169 km (105 mi) northeast of Pierre; County Seat: Aberdeen.

History

Created in 1879 and organized in 1881. Named for Alfred Brown (born in Ottawa, Canada in 1836), also known as "Consolidation Brown" because of his involvement in the consolidation of existing counties and the establishement of new counties. (SD-T17/p22)
