Description

Heads 5.4 km (3.4 mi) north-northwest of Mount Talapus, adjacent to Wauneka Point, then flows northwest, between McCord Creek and Moffett Creek, under Interstate 84, to enter the Columbia River at Mile 143; lies within the John B Yeon State Park and Columbia River Gorge Natural Scenic Area.

History

Named for rare fauna fossils of the Metasequoia tree found along the stream. The Metasequoia, also known as the "Dawn Redwood", is a conifer native to Oregon and southeast Alaska, but it is now extinct in the United States and only found in western China. The fossils were first found in the area in 1874.
