History

Named for Mona Cammann Browning (1903-1990) who along with her husband, both members of pioneer Oregon families, homesteaded on 600 acres along the stream in the 1930s. The variant name Waqíima Creek, from the language of the Umatilla Tribes, reportedly means “spirit”.
