History
Founded in 1849 by John Clark, an Ohio native and plantation owner. Local folklore indicates that the community was named for Gay Hanna, a popular Indian girl who lived in the community. (City history of Gahanna, Ohio) Another name origin indicates that the community was named for the Gahanna River, now called Big Walnut Creek, an Indian word meaning "three united in one".
