Description

Located in east central North Carolina, 82 km (51 mi) east of Raleigh; County Seat: Wilson.

History

Formed in 1855 from Edgecombe, Nash, Johnson, and Wayne Counties; named for Louis Dicken Wilson (1789-1847), Delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1835; he died as an officer in the Mexican American War. (NC-T11/p538)
