Description
Located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on Forneys Ridge, 2.4 km (1.5 mi) S of Clingmans Dome, 13 km (8 mi) NNW of Bryson.
History
A proposal was submitted in 1996 to change the name Andrews Bald to Andres Bald. The name was not approved by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (USBGN) in May 1999. The Board sided with the National Park Service and the North Carolina State Board on Geographic Names which cited long-term local use of the name Andrews Bald and lack of written evidence showing the proposed spelling.
