Description
Located in southwestern North Carolina along the boundary with Tennessee, 82 km (51 mi) west of Asheville.
History
Formed in 1871 from Jackson and Macon Counties; named in honor of David L Swain (1801-1868), Governor of North Carolina and past President of the University of North Carolina. (NC-T11/p483)
