Description
Located in north central North Carolina along the boundary with Virginia, 43 km (27 mi) north of Greensboro; County Seat: Wentworth.
History
Formed in 1785 from Guilford County; named for Charles Watson-Wentworth (1730-1782), second Marquis of Rockingham who supported independence for the American Colonies. (NC-T11/p421)
