Description
Located in western Pender County, 42 km (26 mi) northwest of Wilmington.
History
A railroad station was located here in 1882. One year later the community of Lewis was founded and established on land donated by W H Lewis. In 1909, the community was incorporated as Atkinson, named for an engineer of the railroad. (NC-T11/p15)
