Description
Located in southwestern North Carolina, 54 km (34 mi) northwest of Charlotte; County Seat: Lincolnton.
History
Formed in 1779 from Tryon County when that county was abolished and divided into Lincoln and Rutherford Counties; named for General Benjamin Lincoln (1733-1810) who figured prominently in the Revolutionary War. (NC-T11/p282)
