Located in western North Carolina along the boundary with South Carolina and Georgia; 67 km (42 mi) southwest of Asheville; County Seat: Sylva.

History

Formed in 1851 from Haywood and Macon Counties; named in honor of Andrew Jackson (1767-1845), 7th President of the United States from 1829-1937. (NC-T11/p249)
