Description
Located in eastern North Carolina and bounded on the east by the Pamlico Sound, 137 km (85 mi) east of Greenville; County Seat: Swan Quarter.
History
Formed in 1705 from Bath County (historical); the name was changed in 1712 to honor Governor Edward Hyde who died the same year. (NC-T11/p242)
