Located in western North Carolina along the boundary with Tennessee, 40 km (25 mi) west of Asheville; County Seat: Waynesville.
History
Formed in 1808 from Buncombe County and named for John Haywood (1755-1827), North Carolina State Treasurer from 1787 to 1827. (NC-T11/p219)
