Description

Located in northestern North Carolina, 40 km (25 mi) north of Rocky Mount; County Seat: Halifax.

History

Formed in 1758 from Edgecombe County and named for the Earl of Halifax (1716-1771) also known as the "Father of the Colonies" who served as President of the Board of Trade and Plantations. (NC-T11/p209)
