Description

Located in north central North Carolina along the boundary with Virginia, 54 km (34 mi) north of Raleigh; County Seat: Oxford.

History

Formed in 1746 from Edgecombe County and named in honor of John Carteret, Earl of Granville (1690-1763) who owned the Granville District and refused to sell his property to England in 1729. (NC-T11/p197-98)
