Description
Located in northeastern Nash County and southwestern Edgecombe County, 13 km (8 mi) north northeast of Rocky Mount.
History
Settled about 1840 as a railroad station. Incorporated in 1872, the community was named for James and Joseph Battle, financial supporters of the Wilmington & Raleigh Railroad. (NC-T11/p26)
