The second largest Ocean on Earth, the Atlantic Ocean has an average depth of 12,000 feet. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge divides the floor of the Atlantic into eastern and western sections; follows the trend of the coastlines of bordering continents composed of a series of deep-sea basins (abyssal plains). The greatest depth at 28,000 ft (8,530 m) is the Milwaukee Deep in the Puerto Rico Trench, north of Puerto Rico, at approx 193000N and 0683000W.
