Description
Located in central North Carolina, 68 km (42 mi) west southwest of Raleigh; County Seat: Pittsboro.
History
Formed in 1771 from Orange County and named for William Pitt, Earl of Chatham (1708-1778) who supported American rights and opposed the harsh tactics of British rule. (NC-T11/p174-75)
