Description
Located in eastern North Carolina along the Atlantic Ocean, 40 km (25 mi) southest of New Bern; County Seat: Beaufort.
History
Founded in 1722 and named for John Carteret (1690-1763), later Earl of Granville and one of the Lords Proprietors for North Carolina. (NC-T11/p90)
