Description
This feature is located less than a mile south of the village of Los Cañones (BGN #904721). The Cañones 7.5' map dated 1953 depicted Cañada de Gonzales too far north.
History
(NM Spanish: 'gulch of Gonzales [family surname]') The arroyo feature Arroyo de la Cañada flows with seasonal downpours within this valley feature called Cañada de Gonzales that is often refered to by locals simply as "La Cañada". The name may have arisen because of Juan Antonio Gonzales who received land by deed document dated 1814 for a tract.
