Description

Located at the confluence of the Contoocook River and the Merrimack River.

History

The island is named after Hannah Dustin, a 17th century Puritan mother from Haverhill Massachusetts. On March 15, 1697 she and her infant daughter were taken captive and marched through the wilderness heading north to Canada. While camped on the island, she and two other captives were able to kill their captors while they slept and escape home to Haverhill.
