Description
Located in southern Nebraska along the boundary with Kansas, 103 km (64 mi) southwest of Lincoln; County Seat: Hebron.
History
Originally named Jefferson County (origin unknown), Thayer County became the official name in 1870 and honors General John Milton Thayer, who served as United states Senator from 1867-1871 and as Governor of Nebraska from 1887-1892. (NE-T18/p138)
