Description

Located in eastern Nebraska, 103 km (64 mi) northwest of Lincoln; county seat: Columbus.

History

Established by the State Legislature on 26 January 1856; boudaries were redefined on 22 December 1859. Platte is a descriptive word, and is French for "flat" or "shallow" and was given by French Explorers. (US-T131/1960/NE Placenames, p115)
