Description
Located in south central Nebraska, 32 km (20 mi) southwest of Kearney; county seat: Holdrege.
History
Named for pioneer settler Captain William Phelps who operated a steamboat along the Mississippi River for many years. Phelps County was established on 11 February 1873. (US-T131/1960/NE Placenames, p113)
