Description

Located in southeastern Nebraska along the Missouri River and the boundary with Missouri; County Seat: Auburn.

History

Named for the Nemaha River, which comes from the Otoe Indian words "ni", or "water", and "maha", or "muddy". Boundaries were established on 7 March 1855 and redefined on 26 January 1856 and again on 1 November 1858. (NE-T18/p105
