History
Madison County was established with boundaries defined on 26 January 1856 and refefined on 3 March 1873. The name Madison was offered by a group of German settlers who came from Madison County, Wisconsin. Madison County, Wisconsin, was named for James Madison (1751-1836), 4th President of the United States (1809-1817). (NE-T18/p100)
