Description

Located in central Nebraska, 80 km (50 mi) east of Ogallala; county seat: North Platte.

History

Originally organized on 7 January 1860 as Shorter County. The name was changed to Lincoln County in honor of President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865). Boundaries were redefined on 1 March 1871. (US-T131/1960/NE Placenames, p94)
