Description

Located in southwestern Nebraska, 64 km (40 mi) south of the community of Scotts Bluff; county seat: Kimball.

History

Kimball County was named for Thomas L Kimball (1831-1899), a vice president and general manager for the Union Pacific railroad. The county was formed from a portion of Cheyenne County on 6 November 1888. (US-T131/1960/NE Placenames, p87)
