Description

Located in south-central Nebraska, 80 km (50 mi) SSE of North Platte. County Seat: Stockville.

History

Named because of its geographical location on the Nebraska frontier in the early 1870s. Frontier County was orgainized on 17 January 1872 with boundaries redefined by an act approved by the Legislature on 3 March 1873. (US-T131/1960/NE Placenames,p60)
