Description
Located in northeastern Nebraska along the Missouri River and the boundary with South Dakota; County Seat: Ponca.
History
First settlements occurred along South Creek by a group of Irish pioneers in 1856, one of whom for which the county was named. Approved by the State Legislature on 26 January 1856; boundaries redefined on 13 January 1860. (NE-T18/p53)
