Description

Located in southwestern Nebraska, 130 km (80 mi) west of North Platte. County Seat: Chappell.

History

Named for Harry Porter Deuel (1836-1914), a pioneer citizen of Omaha who served on the first and second Dakota Legislatures from 1862-63 and later with the Union Pacific Railroad. Deuel County was established in January 1889. (US-T131/1960/NE Placenames,p52)
