Description

Located in west-central Nebraska, 40 km (25 mi) S of the community of Scotts Bluff. County Seat: Harrisburg.

History

Named by local citizens who wished to make their county the "banner county" of the State and "to be the brightest star in the constellation of Nebraska counties". Formed from Cheyenne County and established 6 November 1988. (US-T131/1960/NE Placenames, p17)
