General Land Office land patent records show an individual named Emsley Harelson/Harrelson entered land claims for the sections through which the stream flows. The 1895 Plat Book of Henry County shows the stream as Harolston Creek, but a property line through the name makes it appear to be Narolston Creek. The 1930 Plat Book of Henry County shows the stream as Narolston Creek, but a property line through the name makes it appear to be Nardston Creek. Various publications of the Missouri Department of Transportation maps show the name Nordston Creek, while the 1953 USGS 1:24,000 scale topographic map shows Nardeton Creek. The 1981 USGS photorevised 1:24,000 scale topographic map shows Nardenton Creek.
