Description

Centrally located on the east bank of the North Fork Spring River. Lamar was at the eastern end of the Fort Scott Military Road. (US-T125/MO/p504)

History

Founded in 1856, incorporated in 1858, and named for Mirabeau B Lamar, President of the Texas Republic from 1838-41. Lamar was burned at the beginning of the Civil War and later rebuilt on the same site.
